Weekly picks. Week #22

Inspired by my colleague’s idea I’ll share some links that caught my eye last week.

The Dribbblization of Design #

Paul Adams reminds us that design is here to solve problems, not to please our eyes. If you’re hiring designers you should also find another Paul’s post useful.

Microservices #

Guys from Karma shared their experiences running microservices in production. A pragmatic writeup from a practical point of view.

Airbnb experiments #

An interesting read from airbnb engineers about experiments, measuring their impact and some common pitfalls when doing that.

Amazon’s Kindle Unlimited #

Kindle Unlimited is a $9.99 per month subscription service that gives unlimited access to a vast pool of e-books and audio books. I’m not going to use it myself but I think it’s a brilliant move from Amazon, learning from the genius of gym subscription pricing models, also sarcastically known as “gym sponsorship”.

Ninefold #

[Ninefold](ninefold.com) is a Ruby on Rails hosting provider. I tried it out by deploying [giffare.com](giffare.com) on their platform.

Some pros:

Chrome user accounts #

This is a re-discovery. I created a separate Chrome user account for playing guitar. Now I can keep my (browser) tabs with (guitar) tabs open whenever I need them.

LIMBO #

I was specifically looking for a game I could play using a game controller on a Mac. I found LIMBO. It has super simple controls, a very mysterious story, and some elements of a puzzle game. All in all a great choice if you need to kill 15mins every now and then while your pasta is cooking.

You should follow me on twitter if you liked the picks.
